Brief Assignment- NOT REAL

Below is a brief I wrote for my Intro to Media Writing class. It was taken from a public record out of the Williston City Commission meeting minutes from a meeting on September 25, 2012.  Again...this is a little out of date, but based on real events.

A request to approve an ordinance that would prohibit mobile food vendors from operating within the city, was brought to the City Commission at the last meeting on September 25th.
The request was to add Section 25 Q Mobile Food Vendors and Portable Carry Out Food and Beverage Kiosks to the Williston Zoning Ordinance to regulate mobile food vendors within the City of Williston.
The ordinance would only allow mobile food vendors to operate in the city at city-sponsored functions to which mobile food vendors are invited. The ordinance allows coffee kiosks subject to regulations regarding location, access to utilities, rest rooms and fees.
The first reading of the ordinance (Ordinance 958) was unanimously approved.
The next City Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd.

Betty Crocker

I love to bake! I just love it.
Unfortunately, I don't get to do it very often without my own kitchen. Ahhh...dorm life.

Anyhow, this weekend I am in Grand Forks hanging out with the boy. He has a two room apartment he shares with a roommate. The tiny galley kitchen doesn't have much counter space, but it has a sink with great water pressure AND it has a working oven and stove. I'm in heaven, I swear.

I got here this afternoon and got to spend a little time with the boy who I haven't seen in 2 whole weeks! Now though, I am sitting alone in the apartment as he has a show tonight and I'm not going until tomorrow.

To pass the time, I've been catching up on my British Novels reading and...you guessed it: baking.

I started with no-bake cookies, which is actually a contradiction because..they aren't baked, but I did manage to screw them up a little bit. They seem a bit soft.

Next I will be tackling some peanut butter cookies with chocolate kisses. It's gonna be an adventure.

Balance

I am only writing this post to see if my hootsuite account is doing what it is supposed to, but why not make it worthwhile.

Tonight, I am tackling a bunch of smallish tasks that need to be completed. Not only do I have a statistics assignment to finish, but I also have a lot of reading to do for my British novels class and I have a lot of work to do!

Don't worry though, I have been able to stay pretty caught up with everything. I just keep plugging along.

Good luck out there to all of you fellow colleges students sitting in front of your computers tonight!

Continuing the Journey at Jamestown College

A little preview to this post. This is an assignment I recently did for my Intro to Media writing class. Steve McQueen is a really interesting person, so it's worth the read! Have a good Wednesday!

One student continues his dreams at Jamestown College
Steve McQueen never imagined he would be where he is now, in Jamestown, N.D., working for Goodrich in a position that takes him all over the world. Originally from Calif., Steve's life has already been full of experiences, but he's still looking for more.
Steve had a chance to sit down with The Collegian and answer some questions about his current career, what he's learned and what he still wants to do.

Q. So what does your job entail?
A. I'm a product supply engineer for the local Goodrich branch. It involves a lot of travel all over the world to clients and figuring out how to solve their problems.

Q. How did you end up in that career?
A. I got my job  based on previous experience with similar equipment.

Q. What are you doing here at Jamestown College?
A. I got my first degree in History and Political Science. I spent a couple of years in Ohio. I had some family this way and I was looking for a place with a college. This time around, I wanted to look for a degree that matched what I was doing in the business world.

Q. Do you like North Dakota?
A. I actually prefer North Dakota to California. There is a slower pace of life here and there are wide open spaces.

Q. What is the biggest change you've noticed in college since you earned your last degree?
A. There is a much bigger emphasis on technology.

Q. Do you see that as a good or bad thing?
A. I see it as a good thing. My job requires a lot of it and coming out of college the first time, I wasn't prepared. Now, I am constantly traveling. Being able to always communicate with my professors and classmates is a big plus.

Q. Your job takes you all over the world, where is the most interesting place you've ever been?
A. Dubai. There are two sets of rules: regular law and religious law, and you have to know both to navigate their society.

Q. How did that affect your life back in the states?
A. It made me more aware of the fact that the United States is not No. 1. All the travel has exposed me to many different cultures and I've communicated in so many different ways. In my career and my degree, it helps a lot.

Q. How many countries have you visited? Which one is your favorite?
A. I have been to between 12-15 countries. My favorite place to visit is Germany and I go there once or twice a country.

Q. Do you enjoy all of the travel?
A. I had no idea I would be traveling this much. I actually feel like I travel too much. I am on the road 60% of the time an in N.D. 40% of the time.

Q.What is your dream job?
A. Since I was younger, I've wanted to work in a museum. When I'm done with this career, I hope to volunteer in a museum.

This is the start of something new!

Despite the fact that I now have High School Musical stuck in my head, I am starting a new adventure. For a very long time, I have wanted to start a blog, but just haven't gotten around to it.

NOW I HAVE TO! Sometimes class is the best motivator.

I want to be posting more than once a week, but I probably won't make it on here once a day.

Check me out on Twitter @bethkryan!

I'm gonna pay attention in class now, because I should.
